Question diagnosis

I just got my pathology reports back from 3 moles that were jagged edges, all diff. colors, ares of black, and 1 almost 1/2 inch. I just knew that all 3 were melanoma but they all were "compound nevus with congenital pattern"
Can anyone tell me what this means and if i had left them are these the type moles to turn into melanoma? Thanks so much for any help!!

Re: diagnosis

I'm not positive but I think the precancerous moles are always dysplastic or atypical.
