Lightbulb Betasitosterol +

Hello,

In my never ending quest to lower my cholesterol (without drugs!), today I bought a new product, new to me, that is. I don't think I am allowed to give the brand name so...

2 capsules contain:

260 mg. betasitasterol
130 mg. campesterol
71 mg. stigmasterol
650 mg. phytosterol concentrate from soy primarily
5 mg. tocotrienol

plus some grape seed extract, lecithin and lutein, in each cap also.

Question....has anyone had any luck with betasitosterol?
I have read a number of reports/articles about it and it sounds promising. However, to my knowledge, no one has ever mentioned it on these boards, maybe only briefly at that. Guggulip didn't work for me and policosanol has gotten a bad rap from alot of people, so I bought this product above. (If betasitosterol doesn't work for me, I reluctantly will search for some RYR, which contains statins, to my knowledge).

Re: Betasitosterol +

The new MinuteMaid orange juice (HearWise) contains sterols - which is claimed to lower ldl by 10-15%. However, after a three month trial (by me) my numbers barely budged.

Re: Betasitosterol +

I'm perusing the Benecol and SmartBalance Omega-3 lines of butter substitutes, both of which use the plant sterols for claimed cholesterol control.
I think the prices will have to come down somewhat to lure me into a trial.

Re: Betasitosterol +

Benecol is margarine, right? I thought margarine was a bad food, "plastic butter?"
Doing a search, I found that Benecol contains HYDROGENATED sterols....I am led to believe that any product that contains anything "hydrogenated", (eg. oils etc.), is to be avoided!

I haven't used margarine in 20 years and use butter only on rare occasions in small quantities.
The product I bought (described on 1st post here) is made primarily from soy, plants, nothing detrimental or hydrogenated...
