Viral asthma

Does anyone here suffer (or ever suffer) from viral asthma where symptoms would only get very bad maybe during winter with an infection?

Q's for those people:

1) What maintenance medications (if any) were u on?

2) How frequent were your hospitalisations/admissions (if any)?

Re: Viral asthma

Hello jp3892. I am trigger by a few things my asthma acts up when pollen counts are high and also to dust mites. But one of by biggest triggers happens to be respiratory infections - where I get quite bad.

At the moment my lung Dr has me taking Seretide - which I've been taking since approx Sept 2002. Also just about every time I get a cold/bronchitis I am hospitalised. The frequency really depends on how many infections I pick up in a yr, but I've been admitted 13 times in the last 3yrs. Hope this helps -

Re: Viral asthma

Just wondering...

If u have just been taking Seretide for about a year and a half, what then were u taking before this? Since when have u been diagnosed with asthma? Also, what daily dose of Seretide do u take?

Thanks for replying Dolphins. Anyone else with viral asthma?

I have asthma triggered by sickness, exercise and allergies but as far as sickness goes in the winter..
I'm on regular medications: Advair 250/50, Clarinex to control allergies, Singulair also to control allergies/asthma, Flonase to control allergies.
I always require prednisone(usually 60 mg if the flare up is due to illness) when i'm sick, and I have a prescription always waiting 4 me at the pharmacy in case I need it before I can get in 2 see the doctor, and 2 get relief started rigth away. I almost always need Robutussin AC or Tylenol (both with codeine) to calm the coughs I get. Also I need either albuterol inhaler or xopenex every 4-6 hours to keep my airways open and help the coughing. All this helps..though I have come close to hospitalization during pneumonia and a cold recently. None yet..hoping to keep it that way though!=)

Re: Viral asthma

that sounds a lot like me. I don't have allergies as far as I've been tested...

Anyways I'm on advair 250/50, I've frequently on antibiotics, I'm taking tilade every 6 hours, and ventolin HFA for attacks.

As for hospitalization, I've been in the emergency room 3 times since christmas and went to my doctor 3 maybe 4 since christmas, and I'm going again tomorrow.
