Reflux and losing too much weight

Hi all
I'm 5'11' and am underweight according to the doctor and most weight charts I look at. I've had reflux problems on and off for 5 years, though the last 2 it's been constant. I was put on Nexium to help it, but I developed a problem with constipation, even with low doses. Now I just manage my diet by cutting out fats/spices/chocolate/caffeine, which helps a little, but more so I am just forced to eat less food which stops the refluxing mostly. I hate it though because I have to eat many small meals and still feel I don't get enough to eat....and in fact I have lost alot of weight.
What can I do? I want to gain weight (crazy as it sounds) so I can feel like a more normal size.
ps I am not anorexic, and I don't get dizzy spells or feint.

Thanks!
Dale

Re: Reflux and losing too much weight

Have you tried any of the alterntive choices like Prevacid or Prilosec just to name a few? If not I would ask the doc if you can try some different medications till you find one that hopefully works for you. If constipation is your only side effect it might be worth it to live with and bulk up on fibers and fresh fruits so that you can at least eat more and gain the weight you feel you need.
There are also different methods of treating it, one is to take a 2 - 4 week dose of Prilosec and an antibiotic then go back to a regular dose of Prilosec or similiar as maintenance. And of course there's always as a last resort surgical options if it is very severe.
Acid Reflux, if not controlled can cause throat cancer, it's a scary thing.
I have found that Prevacid works best for me but everyone is different.
Also the small meals is the way to go, how eating foods high in calories or carbs? And maybe drink lots of milkshakes or something similiar. I know there's weight gain products available at health food stores, maybe something like that would work..
I'd first get the the AR problems under control before trying anything of those.

Good luck to you
