Post MAJOR DRUG WARNING!!!!!!PLEASE READ THIS....

Recently a drug known as PPA (phenylpropanolamine) was found to cause a higher risk of stroke or heart attack in women. Well, it is found in children's over the counter meds like Dinatapp and Triaminic. The FDA has found this drug unsafe and BOTH of theses cold meds SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO CHILDREN!!! In fact, ANYTHING with this drug in it should not be given to children! Ladies read those labels! Any medicine with this drug in is should have been removed from the shelf but you can still find them out there. Be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist about this it's important!!!Take care,
Diane

This was posted back to me at another board. It might be helpful:
****Start***********
The FDA has issued a recall of all drug products containing phenlypropanolamine (PPA). The recall is based on the results of clinical tests that proved the risk of hemorrhagic stroke, or bleeding into the brain, associated with PPA could result. Some over the counter (OTC) products containing PPA include:

Alka-Seltzer Plus, Tavist-D, Triaminic Triaminicol, Contact Severe Cold, Comtrex Deep Chest, Dexatrim XS w/ Vitamin C, Dexatrim EXT Duration, Accutrim maximum Strength, Dimetapp DM Cough/Cold, Dimetapp Elixir, Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Liquid, Alka-Seltzer Plus Night Time, Alka-Seltzer Plus Orange, Alka-Seltzer Plus Tabs, Alka-Seltzer Plus Night Time Tabs, AAFES Tussin CF Cough Formula, AAFES Dimaphen Elixir, AAFES Effervescent Cold Relief, Permathene-16, Robitussin CF Cough Syrup, Comtrex Multi Symptom, Sine Off Sinus

Unused quanities of these registered trademark products purchased from AAFES may be returned for full refund. Please check your medicine cabinets and remove/return all items with PPA.

This was a handout I received about the recall. I just wanted to add that this list is not all inclusive and that everyone should check the ingredients on all of their medications to insure that they do not contain PPA.

*********END***********

Take care all,
Diane

Re: MAJOR DRUG WARNING!!!!!!PLEASE READ THIS....

This recall is over a year old possibly two. Most of the medications listed were pulled from the shelves and our now made without the medication in question.
