Post autism and mercury??

I read somewhere in one of the threads here that someone believes mercury is the major culprit in autism. I would be most interested in hearing the evidence to support this theory, it is one I have never heard before. My own experience is that my son developed autism/pdd/whatever else you want to call it after his 18 month DPT vaccine (he is now 13 and we have tried all sorts of alternative med stuff without any success).

I thought I responded to you Re; the chelating. However, I must not have sent the reply. I have been looking for answers to my situation with my three year old son for 2 years. I am convinced that there is hope after starting the diet and giving him nystatin and culturelleGG to help the intestinal inbalance, his behavior and eye contact have improved significantly.. He maintains eye contact most of the time and has become affectionate.Until we find out about the results of a hair test for mercury poisoning, performed last week, i am not sure what caused his autistic symptoms. We think he may have had a reaction to a flu or MMR vaccine, so we are planning to have a biopsy to check for MMR in the intestine, which as i understand may go hand in hand with the mercury poisoning. I read that if there is mercury poisoning than you can pursue the Chelating( process of removing heavy metals from the body) which once completed will allow the intestines to heal. It all depends on the extent of damage to the intestine. Here are some suggestions. Change your sons diet to no milk, eggs, cheese, citris fruit, wheat or gluten, sugar, soy, preservatives and no dyes or tartaric acid, no yeast. I usually avoid too much fruit as well. The only fruit I give my son is apples and bananas, because he can't tolerate citric foods. I would be conservative on the fruit and sugar. He can have a forth of a wheat free gluten free oatmeal cookie, twice a day. He also has rice cakes with almond butter once per day. For lunches and dinners he has any fresh meat with no preservatives, only rice flour breading allowed. Lunch meat is a killer due to high ntrates and preservatives, ketchup is bad new unless it is from the health food store and still it is hard on their bellies. However, my son often won't eat his meat without it. The only vegatable he eats is corn as he doesn't have a corn gluten intolerance. I suggest this to you because it was my first step to healing for my son, and it has worked. If you pinpoint his allergies than you'll know exactly what to avoid. I suggest Great Plains lab, Dr. Shaw is a research doctor who runs the lab and has a son who he has been treating for 7 years, with good results. I had their lab perform a organic acid test and a food allergy panel of 90 foods, IgE and ******IgG***** the key for our son was getting the IgG, which is true for a lot of kids that have this disorder. It was hard for us but once we made a point to avopid all offending foods, and start the nystatin( from a compound pharmacy without dye or perservatives, just add a pinch of stevia for flavor) for yeast and culturelle to replace good bacteria, my son started to speak in sentences and had much less episodes of behavior outbursts. Also the super nu thera vitamins help as well. Look up www.healing-arts.org/children/holmes.htm this will give you the info on chelating. I have to strongly encourage you to find out the offending foods and avoid them at all cost, they only cause regression for my son. It could be just one product that has a wheat flour that could keep my son from making eye contact or have him screaming all day. It is crucial that you take that step and work from there. I wish you the best. I am not a MD, but I am a nurse and have devoted the last year and a half of my life to getting as much info as possible and treating my son myself as the traditional MD's don't even know where to begin with him. I see great hope for a cure.
