DHA ; Docosahexaenoic = lowers triglycerides

Has anyone used DHA to lower the triglycerides that hiked up as a result of some statin once completely off the statin? was it with or with out EPA?

Omega 3= 18% DHA+12%EPA+?what else is in the capsules? anyone?

Re: DHA ; Docosahexaenoic = lowers triglycerides

My triglycerides used to be over 500 and I started fish oil supplementation. I know that last two times I have had my cholesterol checked by tris. were under 200 now. I can't say with 100% accuracy whether the fish oil is what helped but it is supposed to. I prefer the NOW brand super epa. Lowering high glycemic carbs is also important in lowering tris too. Hope this helps.

Re: DHA ; Docosahexaenoic = lowers triglycerides

HeyThere,

Sorry to see your status but I'll answer anyway.

Sure DHA is a major component of Omega-3 oils and is very helpful for a good lipid profile. The same can be said for EPA. Major benefit is the ability to raise HDL but not to be sniffed at is the anti platelet clumping qualities...preventing blood clots.
Most on the board try for 1000 mg Omega-3's (N-3), the sum of DHA +EPA.
Fish oils however are a melange of different weight (carbon length) oils and even have Omega-6 oils like most vegetable oils and even some saturated oils.
I get mine from a tsp of cod liver oil a day.

I lowered my TRIG from 187 to 90 in 3 weeks using fish oil (Carlson..pure). I used Omega 3 oil 1200 mgEPA/750mg DHA combo daily.
