Alpha Lipoic Acid ( R-ALA /DL-ALA)

Has anyone tried AlphaLipoicAcid (over the counter) to reverse liver/hightriglyceride/choelesterol/damage from meds.? Which form did you use R-ALA or DL-ALA and did you use it with pectin in addition to get the numbers down?

Did anyone hear about the mouse mice study of injecting them with it to reset triglcerides level to normal? It was released this week National public radio. Correct me if I am wrong please did I miss hear that?

Re: Alpha Lipoic Acid ( R-ALA /DL-ALA)

While I am not aware of any of these studies which you are referring to, it is my understanding that alpha lipoic acid is a powerful antioxidant which is BOTH water and fat soluble. So my guess would be that it may offer cardiovascular protection, since it acts as a protector of both water-soluble and fat soluble antioxidants, including glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin E, and coenzyme Q10.

Lipoic acid is better known for its effects on blood sugar, as it fights insulin resistance and stimulates the cells' uptake of glucose. It is also used in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy, and is known as a powerful protector of the liver.

Most alpha lipoic acid supplements are actually a mixture of both the R and the L form. R-lipoic acid is the natural, and far more effective form. The L form is synthetic, and there is evidence that this form may not even be effective. However, all natural R-lipoic acid is available, albeit considerably more expensive. But, in my opinion, if you can afford it, that would certainly be the way to go.

Re: Alpha Lipoic Acid ( R-ALA /DL-ALA)

r-ala is more expensive but it is also 3-4 times as effective as racemate.
Insulow is probably one of the better priced R+ lipoic products, one that you can actually buy in drug stores.

something that you want to look into for cholesterol is Sesamin, its a ppar agonist that has been shown to lower ldl and raise hdl. Sesapure is a high quality low price product, though its only available on line.
