Unhappy Buspar or Buspirone ( HELP )

Hello,
I would like to know if anyone has tried Buspirone? Im trying this because we have tried prozac and respiral and both did not work. My 4 year daughter has autism and mild mental retardation and her moods are very bad. She kicks screams, bites herself and me, throws things. It has gotten so bad lately i dont know what to do next. How do I help my child? I have tried the gf/cf diet and so far nothing works. we listen to music sing snuggle in her favorite blanket but nothing works. I really dont know what to do I cry alot anymore and this does not help her at all. The doctors dont know what to say. If anyone can help me please do?

Unhappy

Sorry things are not going so well for your daughter. I know how stressed you must be feeling. The GF/CF diet was not helpful for my son, either.
Have you considered a mood stabilizer for your daughter? Trileptal and Depakote are anticonvulsants which are prescribed for rage behavior in the autistic/bipolar population.
Sometimes there is seizure activity going on deep inside the temporal lobe that may never be picked up on an EEG. This will cause these mood swings/rages.
I wouldn't try any other medications until her moods are stabilized.
Please post again as to her progress.

Hi,
My son Niko does not take Buspar but i wanted to write because I take it for my panic disorder. The research I have done is that it is a very safe medicine and works on adjusting the serotonin in your brain. The only think I would caution you about is there are times when i need the mg. that the doctor says I can take daily (15mg 2 x day) but as time goes on my levels must straighten out because I need to decrease the dosage and right now I only am takin 5 mg. daily. Why I am letting you know this is because I experience a certain kind of dizziness and almost swoosing sound about 45 minutes after taking too much. I would just be concerned with if your child can tell you how they feel. I communicate with others that take buspar and this apparently is quite often a side effect. I hope this helps somewhat.

Hi, I just wanted to write that my son and I have both taken buspar for anxiety and while it worked wonders for both of us, we both suffered the side effects mentioned above and eventually stopped. Though having taken it I now recognize the onset of an anxiety attack and can usually coach myself through it, I never knew that it was possible to not be terrified of spiders and a zillion other things until I tried the buspar. My boyfried also stutter's alot, rarely speaks to people he doesnt know well and has anxiety issues. He took it as well and it eliminated his stuttering - he began talking non-stop! He also stopped because of the nausea and dizziness. --Meme
