Question feels like something lodged in chest

For 2 days now, I have a pain in my chest (sternum) that goes through to my back. It feels like I swallowed something and it won't go down. It hurts to swallow liquids, food. It kind of feels like a burp is stuck, too. When the pain hits, I can't bend over till the pain subsides. Some ppl I've asked say it could be my gall bladder, some say hiatal hernia, some say ulcers. I've never had any stomach problems in my life. It is really getting to be very bothersome. Can anyone offer any suggestion of what it might be? I have no health insurance, so if it's something not that serious, I'll just ignore it for now, until it gets worse. I have no stomach pain whatsoever. Tums and Pepto do nothing.

Re: feels like something lodged in chest

What you describe could be related to the esophagus. Perhaps something called "esophageal spasm". Or it could be severe acid reflux disease. For the latter, have you tried something like over-the-counter Zantac? See if that helps at all.

Regarding espohpageal spasm, check this out.. (It's from MEDLINE, approved by moderators to post here..)

Pain on swallowing should be evaluated by a doctor if it continues much longer. Your symptoms could be something very benign but also something more serious that needs further investigation.
