x-rays and cancer

Do any of you wonder if mammograms (radiation) over many years CAUSES breast cancer? They say it's our American diet that causes breast cancer, but I am so suspicious of all these years and years and YEARS of mammograms I've had! 16 years to be exact. With all that radiation (everyone knows radiation can cause cancer) how could a person NOT end up with breast cancer??? And it's not just one e-ray on each breast every year. It's two or three or four on each one each year. Does anyone have any knowledge about this subject? Or do you think we should just believe what all the doctors say: "A mammogram is just a very small amount of radiation." That's not what some scientists say. But there's nothing I can do about it because I've already had 16 years of x-rays - four to six on each side. That sounds like a lot of radiation to me. I know I'm raving - but I get scared when I think about it. Thanks for listening.
