Questions for those who have had sinus surgery

Friday I had bilateral endoscopic maxillary antrostomies - which I can now spell without even looking, thany-you-very-much.

I'm not supposed to blow my nose until I have the doctor's permission. My doctor is only in two days a week, and I'm not seeing him until 4/26. Meanwhile, it's allergy season and storm season, and I'm sneezing like crazy. Last night was especially bad - the temperature leapt up from 70 to 90, then a major storm system (including tornadoes) moved in. UGH.

How do you restrain yourself from blowing your nose? I try not to, but sooner or later the congestion form all the sneezing gets to be too much and I do it. And it hurts. So I'm constantly weighing how badly congested I am against how much blowing will hurt.

I'm not bleeding or anything.

Re: Questions for those who have had sinus surgery

Remember to sneeze out your mouth if you have to. I used a saline spray 10-20 times a day. That seemed to keep the nasal passages free of junk. I didn't start using my irrigation machine until 10 days after surgery.

Some important questions...

1. Did you schedule an appointment to have scar tissue removed? This is VERY important, in order to avoid post-surgical infections. But be forwarned, it does hurt like the devil.

2. What medications are you on? Please don't tell me it's Avelox or Levaquin. If it is, I would change it.

3. Be careful with the Vicodin (if that's what they gave you). 2 pills will give you constipation. This is why Elvis spent 2 hours in the bathroom!

Re: Questions for those who have had sinus surgery

They gave me Vicodin, which I only took twice, and an antibiotic. I don't have the bottle with me. It began with a "C." I'm just taking that and Tylenol now.

I have an appointment to have the splints removed. He didn't say anything about scar tissue, but I am supposed to make another appointment after that. I wonder if I will be able to go to work after he takes out the splints. I was assuming so, since he said I wouldn't need anesthetic, but I don't know.

I have saline spray - I left it at home of course. (I'm at work.) I have used it a couple of times. Maybe I'll try using that more. I also left the number for his nurse at home, and the people at the main clinic number were singularily unhelpful.

Re: Questions for those who have had sinus surgery

Check the bottle. If it says "Cipro" call your doctor and demand a non-quinolone antibiotic.

The drugs Levaquin, Avelox, Cipro and Floxin have debilitating, even fatal side effects, some of which can last 3 years after taking the drug. They cause tendinopathy, which can lead to ruptured Achilles tendons, joint pain, etc. They can also cause Peripheral Neuropathy -aka damage to the peripheral nervous system. I took both Levaquin and Avelox, and I now have full-blown Carpal Tunnel syndrome in my hands, so bad I might have to go on disability.

Even worse, some people develop autoimmune reactions to these drugs, such as Stevens Johnson Sydrome, where your immune system attacks your skin, causing you to literally burn from the inside out (15% fatality rate).

There are THOUSANDS of complaints concerning these drugs on the Internet. Some estimates place adverse reactions at 26%! Far above the 1% nonsense Bayer would have us believe. I've received dozens of emails from fellow victims in the last couple of weeks alone.

Cipro is the worst of the lot. It is very, very dangerous. I can provide you with a mountain of research indicating how dangerous it is, so don't let your doctor tell you otherwise. He isn't a clinical pharmacologist or researcher.

Also, make an appointment to get the scar tissue removed. You will feel 100% better afterwards, and th chances of developing another infection will be minimal.

Re: Questions for those who have had sinus surgery

Thanks, I'll check. I'm looking at a list of antiobiotics, though, and "Ceftin" seems the most familiar.
