I need some advice...

For about the past couple months or so, i have noticed this small red *** on my back. Ive been to the doctor for a cough I've had and since i was there i asked about this spot. He said it didnt look like anything to worry about, but didnt say much more. The reason i noticed this spot is because i get a tingling sensation in this area on occasion. Im worried cuz i can feel it and its the only red spot i can see on my body. I always hear about how you have to catch skin cancer early , so is a couple months early when talking about this sort of thing? I am also only 19 years old so i was wondering if that has anything to do with the chances of this spot being cancerous.

Re: I need some advice...

Hey there,

I do believe that in most cases skin cancer happens as a result of moles. However this doesnt have to always be the case and what you are describing could technically be skin cancer. However dont get all worried about it, because you are only 19 and although possible, skin cancer is very rare at this age. I would maybe give it a week to see if it changes, and if not schedule an appointment with a dermatologist, who is a little more experienced with skin cancer then a GP. Hope it goes well.

Since i have noticed this spot it has not changed in appearance at all, but i still get that tingling feeling time to time. The spot is very small and light bright red. It is also located on my upper back. what are the chances that this could be cancer? thanks

Re: I need some advice...

I have had several basal cell cancers. They do start off as red spots like you are describing. They usually itch, sometimes hurt and for some bleed....... Symtoms of each of my spots have all been different. One thing they all had in common, they grow! I would keep an eye on it. If it is a basal cell they do tend to grow slowly and can be removed easily (in most cases). If you are really concerned make an appointment with a dermatologist. My first basal cell was removed at 27 years. I had the spot for over 2 years though so that would put me at 24 1/2.
