Ok to have colposcopy during Pregnancy?

I am 8 months pregnant and i had a abnormal pap. Now my doctor wants to do do a colposcopy on while i am still pregnant. I am kinda scared and don't think it would be a good idea. Can anyone give me any advise on this.

The colposcopy won't hurt you -it's just a look at your cervix under magnification. It's the biopsy part that should not happen until after you deliver. More than likely your provider is simply trying to map out the abnormal areas of the cervix to see how much is involved.
Call and ask for clarification.

Re: Ok to have colposcopy during Pregnancy?

I am 18 weeks pregnant and my doc. also found abnormal cells on my cervix. He did a colposcopy a few weeks ago and found a little bit of dysplasia. He did a biopsy of the cells, and I have not had any complications from it. the procedure was painless...just like a regular pap smear but with a little more pressure. He said it will not harm the baby in any way. The only thing that really scared me was a week after the biopsy, I was passing chunks of skin that looked like clots, but did not have any blood on them. I called the doc. immediately and she said this was just my cervix healing and was perfectly normal. So although I am not positive...just going by what my OBGYN told me...I believe colposcopys and bioposys are ok to do during pregnancy (though the size and severity of the abnormal cells may affect if a biopsy should be before or after delivery) GOOD LUCK and don't worry too much about it, abnormal cells are very common during pregnancy and often dissappear after delivery.

Re: Ok to have colposcopy during Pregnancy?

I believe that colpo's & biopsies are ok, but I don't think that they'll do anything further than that until the baby's born.

GOOD LUCK!!!
