My INR while on Nattokinaise.

I was coumadin for almost 4 months following a post-op blood clot. Because of my age, activity level and health, my doctor decided to take me off the coumidin and put me on Nattokinaise (a natural blood thinning enzyme).

Since being on the Nattokinaise (almost two weeks), my INR's have been 1.1 and 1.2. A slight increase, however, VERY low to my liking. She (my doctor) has said that the Nattokinaise might not effect the INR but will make my blood 'behave differently'.

I don't buy that. The INR determines how your blood 'behaves' by testing the quickness (or lack there of) or clotting properties in you blood. The INR IS how my blood behaves.

If my INR is 1.2, that means my blood is still very coagulent. Right?

What is everyone elses take on this? Should I insist on going back on coumadin, or does this sound right for Nattokiniase?

Erin

PS: The reason for going off the coumadin was primarily due to the fact that it interferes with what types of pain killers I can take for my back, however I am not willing to take the risk for added comfort. I would rather change my pain killers if needed.

Re: My INR while on Nattokinaise.

Thanx. I guess I've already made up my mind. I don't feel comfortable with my INR's being so low, Nattokinaise or not. I have another INR on Monday, and an appointment on Tues, so I will bring it up then. I seriously doubt it will have been effected very much, if at all.

When I was first diagnosed I was hospitalized for five days because they had such a hard time bringing it back up, and I don't want to go through that again. Better safe then sorry.
