Exclamation Unknown Victim of MD

My Mother has Limb-gridle MD as well as my uncle and has for over 20 years. As 22 years of age I am noticing some sypmtoms of MD arriving. Is anyone out there able to share with me the steps they took on finding out if they had MD and what type of tests are involved in finding out. I was told a muscle biopsy, but is there toher ways through modern technology? If you are that somebody who knows, who has been trhough it please help a scared, but curious person out.

Re: Unknown Victim of MD

Hi Karri,
My name is Bryan. I'm 25 and was recently diagnosed with Miyoshi Myopathy Dystrophy. They did not need a muscle biopsy to diagnose me. they did a test where they shocked my muscles (not bad at all) and one with needles where they listen to your muscles (i'll be honest and say this is kind of uncomfortable). All in all they were not bad at all and only took about an hour to do and a week for the doctor to look at. I was petrified when my doctor said anything about muscular dystrophy, but if you find a neurologist you like, they will get you through everything. From the research that i've done and that has been passed on to me, Limb Girdle and Miyoshi are similar in some ways. At least it's the same protien, dysferlin, that we are missing. I hope you find a doctor you like and that things work out for you. Please write back if you have any other questions or just need to talk. you're not alone.
