advice on changing asthma

comic sans MS

Hello everyone! I am more of a lurker that a poster...but here goes!

I have had asthma since sixth grade and I am now 33. My asthma has gone through a diagnosis change from moderate to severe. I am now juggling breathing treatments, reports to the doc, Er visits and prednisone a lot more than usual. I am currently getting over a URI and have had 11 days of mild wheezing. However, my peak flows have only fallen from 450 to 400. In the beginning I was using my inhaler 3 times a day and it would bring the peak flows back up. Thats stopped working a few days ago and I switched to 2 breathing treatments a day which brings my peak flows back up. My set up with the doc is to call her if I fall below 350 and to go to the ER if I am below 300......but should I call because of the duration of my wheezing? Do regular "severe" asthmatics call this regular maintenence? My doc isn't in the office until Monday so I thought I would ask you fellow asthmatics out there! My regular meds are allegra, nasal crom, accolate and advair. I have breathing treatments that I can use as needed.

Thanks!

Re: advice on changing asthma

Hi
I'd phone your doctor, you shouldn't be wheezing that much. If your treatments aren't lasting as long or working as well then it's a sign that your asthma is deteriorating.
Hope you feel better soon.
