Unhappy Naval Piercing Problem

I got my naval pierced about 3 months ago. It hurt like hell, dont listen to those people who say id doesnt Anyways, people told me it would get crusty, could bleed, could puss ect and that all is normal. As long as the puss is not yellow or green. Mine didnt do any of that and looked great, still does. I soaked it and washed it with what they told me to for the first 2 1/2 months. When I first got it, it was very sensative, but went away after the 2nd month. Now that Im not soaking it, it has become sensative again.
I am having some problems tho. I have a hoop not a barbell. Well I cant get the hoop off to change it or to take it off and rinse inside the hole like I Was told to do. I twist and twist and the ball turns but never losens. Also before bed I will rinse it and turn it and white puss comes out. It also makes it so that it doesnt move by itself like I was told that its suposed to by now. Its as if it has crusted inside so that its stuck and wont move unless its wet.
I still wash it everyday and turn it while in the shower but dont soak it anymore. Does anyone know why I would be having these problems or what I can do to fix it? And how can I get my hoop off? Am I doing something wrong? Please help!

Smile Solution to your naval piercing problem!

Well hun, I have to say that mine didnt hurt, but hey, different thresholds of pain. Well you could try taking it off while its soaking. Try in the bath tub if you can. As for the hoop, it has you tricked as it did me. The balls that they use with the hoop when piercing are not screwed on, they are clamped on so you have to pop out the ball. It took me a while to figure it out so don't worry about that. If you can't just pop it out you may have to open the hoop itself from the ball and then you can take it out. Also try to twist your hoop through your bellybutton as much as they told you and it will be sensitive, but don't worry, it will get better in a few months. You are correct, it may be crusting onto the hoop, but a little soap and water or bacitracan should loosen that up. White puss is ok and the reason you can't move it is because your skin is swelled and trying to heal itself now. As long as it moves when it's wet it will be ok. I've had mine done for 3 1/2 years now and it's great as can be. Oh, a little advice for the future... Be careful of the jeans you wear that it doesn't rub up against it to much or it could get a little blister on the underside of your belly button. If this occurs just apply some ointment or take it out for a day or two as long as it won't grow shut. I hope I was some help to you and good luck!

Re: Naval Piercing Problem

If you are having so much trouble getting the hoop out, plus the fact that you say the hoop is tight - I wouldn't attempt to take it out yourself. I would go back to the place that pierced it, and ask them to show you how to do it. They do this for people all the time. If you try to take it out at home & accidentally tug on it & it starts to bleed, you may have a difficult time getting it back in - and then your piercing could close. Get help with it. You may want to consider having them change the hoop to a barbell - they don't rub or catch as much as a hoop - so there's less irritation & it will probably heal faster. Another thing - you don't HAVE to remove it to rinse the inside of the piercing. You just stand under the shower & twist it back & forth while the water runs over it.

Also - you shouldn't put Bacitracin or Neosporin on a healing piercing. It keeps the piercing from getting oxygen, which it needs to heal properly. Antibacterial soap is plenty. Especially if you're doing salt soaks, too. And it's normal to have the white discharge for up to a year - it's a sign the piercing is healing.

I had mine pierced about a year ago. It didn't hurt at all & was completely healed in about 3 months - which is unusual. I had a barbell. I changed once to a hoop & found it got caught on a lot of things & made the piercing sensitive. So I changed back to a barbell & not a problem since.

Re: Naval Piercing Problem

When I first had mine done it would crust inside and turning it felt like little knives were cutting the hole. You should go back to soaking it and trying to turn it after that. Also, I wouldn't take it out and clean it. Just clean the hoop and spin it and clean again and spin again. Wait till you can turn the hoop without pain or sticking before taking it out. If there is puss, it's probably still semi-open and you don't want to let the air touch it. You need pliers to remove a hoop. Also, people say not to use hydrogen peroxide, but mine wasn't healing because I was sick and stressed out and someone told me to use it. It worked really well. About a week later it healed completely.

Damn! That is somethikng they should have told me!!! Thanks so much for the info, it sounds painful tho in order to get it off
Thanks everyone for the input, it all makes alot of sense, thanks for the good advice! I will try soaking with my solar sea salt again and rinsing it in the shower with antibacterial soap still and see if it feels better and stops pussing. Maybe then I will try to take it off. If that doesnt work I will go in and have it switched. Thanks so much again!
