Natural remedy for HBP

Bananas! At least they work for me.
I had a terrible case of hpb. Nothing (even medication) could lower it to acceptable levels. Now, my hbp is wonderfully under control, and my medication is at a minimum, thanks to bananas. No joke. They really do work.

Re: Natural remedy for HBP

I have read that Potassium plays a role in containing BP.... A medium Banana contains approx :

110 Calories.
1 g of Protein.
29g of Carbohydrate.
4 g of Dietary Fiber.
Zero Fat.

81mg of Vitamin A.
9 mg of Vitamin C.
19 mcg of Folate.
29 mcg of Magnesium.
396 mg of Potasium.

5 mcg of Alpha Carotenoids.
21 mcg of Beta Carotenoids.

Seems like a healthy food !

BTW I am in no way saying that the Banana's are solely responsible for your success but it's seems that the Potasium probably didnt hurt any.

Re: Natural remedy for HBP

I was taking 100mg of lopressor, and 25mg of hydrochlorathiazide. The best reading I could hope for was a diastolic pressure in the high 80s. Frequently it was much higher. Most of the time around 100. Now I only take 25mg of lopressor with my 25mg hct, and my diastolic is usully high 70s low 80s. I could probably get rid of the lopressor, but I'm a little worried about a "rebound effect." I'll probably cut my hct in half somewhere down the line.

And as far as how many bananas I eat, it's usually anywhere from 7 to 10 (or more), spaced out during the day. I have no qualms about eating them because they're delicious, nutritious, and of course a Godsend for my hbp.

Re: Natural remedy for HBP

I'm not saying bananas are a medical miracle for hypertension sufferers, but I tried Mariposa's suggestion. I went to the store and figured 'what the hell'. Plus, the local supermarket was offering a pound of bananas for 29 cents. I ate two of them in the afternoon. My blood pressure never moved a notch from 112/83. Last week, it went up to 112/87 (see post called 'diastolic rising..help'). Well, I checked my bp a few hours after dinner...BAM. 111/79! I couldn't believe my monitor! I'm not sure if bananas are end-all, be-all but I'm going to continue my banana regimen. That's the only thing I changed!

Thanks Mariposa!
