mole

Hello all,

I'm a 17 year old female and I'm concerned about a mole that I have on my neck. This mole has been present for a long time (probably since I was about 10 years old). It's about the size of a pencil eraser and it has a slightly rough surface. Well, I tend to have a nervous habit of picking at it alot. I have long fingernails and when I was picking at it the other day it started to bleed and it seems as if I had dug into the surface a little bit. I read on the internet that if a mole bleeds it's a cause for concern... well I'm not sure if by bleeding they mean bleeding because of trauma (i.e. picking at it) or ijust bleeding and scabbing sporadically (it has never done that before). Also, a small scab formed over the part where I had picked at it. Any input would be greatly appreciated. In either case, I think that I will have a doctor look at it soon and possibly get it removed. Also, I always wear sunscreen, though I have gotten sunburned before when I was younger and I do have fair skin and blonde hair. My mom and dad both have moles but none of them have ever been cancerous, so I don't know if having moles is genetic or not? (Just thought I'd give you all some history)

hi, I wouldnt be worried; if they bleed when Left Alone it CAN mean something dangerous but most anything will bleed if picked at.
Gee, I've had so many removed over the years. When I was pregnant in 1965 my gyno looked at the one on my neck, asked if it's growing, I didn't answer, he sprayed it to numb it and snapped it off with scissors. I never felt Anything at all .
In 1964 I went to a dermie about the ones on my back. He gave me a shot for each one before he removed them which hurt. I mean, the shot hurt. Maybe he didn't have any spray?
I'd call around; you can go to any old general practitioner. Ask if they have the spray that numbs instantly. That is great stuff whatever it is. Both my daughters have one on their necks too !

Hey there,

Yeah just go get it cut off to get rid of it and ease your mind. I would go to a dermatologist though as they are skin experts and will do the best job to remove it without any pain at all. I would also really recommend not picking at it this could cause some problems, try and stop it.

gregV has the right idea. have yourself checked by a dermatologist. I do it once a year & have had several moles removed
