I've battled high blood pressure and other heart diseases every day for years. Most of the time I don't know if my blood pressure is high or not, unless it gets up to around 180/120, and then I get some uncomfortable symptoms.

It has never effected my appetite.

I have read that appetite suppressant drugs can cause high blood pressure. I have also read that high levels of leptin in certain people can cause high blood pressure. Leptin is a hormone secreted by the body that helps to suppress appetite. You might be interested in doing some research on the relationships between leptin and high blood pressure.

Re: hypertension symptoms

Along the same line as Beerzoid's post, high blood pressure in and of itself, does not affect the appetite. Unless dangerously high, hypertension is symptomless.

Re: hypertension symptoms

I agree with the appetite...no changes here (though I swear the meds make me hungrier. I am too old for a growth spurt).

The only clue I have as to when my BP is up is that I get a pounding headache.

Re: hypertension symptoms

Most people may not have symptoms, but I felt dizzy. I went for my yearly check up last month. I'm 57 and I'm pretty healthy. This year my blood pressure was 160/90. I told the doctor I felt dizzy and she said she wasn't surprised. They put me on hydrochlorot. My bp was a little better but I was still dizzy. They switched me to Norvasc. An hour after my first dose, I could feel the dizziness fade. I had a tingling and some pulsating in my brain (I swear!). A few hours later, my brain felt so relaxed and my dizziness was gone!! I understand that Norvasc dialates and relaxes blood vessels. I guess that is what I neeeded. At first I felt a little sedated like I was on Valium. But that is getting better. I do think my appetite is a little better now.
My bp is around 130/80 when I'm relaxed.
