Unhappy Knee/Leg Pain

I've been going to doctors for quite some time on this but if anyone has a similar situation, I would be delighted to hear about what steps they've taken. About six months ago, I began having a sharp, severe pain my my right leg. I waited a month (stupid, I know) and then went to the doctor when it became so unbearable I couldn't sleep. The doctor immediately had me have an ultrasound to rule out DVT/blood clots. They found nothing of the sort. Then, the doctor had me go have x-rays taken. The radiologist said that they found an "incidental ossifying fibroma" near my knee so my doctor referred me to an orthopedic specialist. The specialist took x-rays and also had me go through an MRI. He said he found nothing and could find no evidence of a fibroma. So, basically I am back where I started: knowing nothing. I still have the pain...it's on an off...but when it's on, it's terrible. It feels like my leg is aching on the inside, deep inside the bone. They had me take Celebrex to see if that helped, and it didn't. So, now they've basically told me that it's my imagination. Has anyone else had anything similar?

Re: Knee/Leg Pain

Don't you love it when they don't have an answer and tell you it is all in your head.
I have had pain in my legs deep pain like your talking about for about a year.
I have diabetes so naturally I go right away. Nothing, I had all sorts of tests and they keep saying nothing is wrong, no blockages etc.
At night sometimes it hurts like heck and I get up and put heat on my legs.
So far the only thing I take is that Tylenol for arthritis and it seems to help a lot.
I get this swelling just above my knee like a swollen spot that comes and goes with the pain. I rub it, massage it, it goes away. Doesn't hurt but when I walk a lot it flares up and my knee hurts. Maybe it is arthritis but
something is not right. I suppose when I get older again, they will come up with a name other then stress.

Re: Knee/Leg Pain

I've got a similar problem, well at least with pain and the doc not listening. I hit the top of my knee while climbing a ladder, when I put my knee down I heard a snap. I was in great pain and could barely stand. At first the doctors said I bruised the bone. It's been six months and have been seeing an Orthopedic for 2 mos. He said I have petella tendonitous and am going to PT but it's not helping much. I need to have an MRI done, I believe I have a PCL tear. The only thing I can do for the pain is ice, allergic to ibuprofin and tylenol doesn't help.
Can you think of anything that brought on the pain? Where is the deep pain specifically at in your leg? Does it feel like shin splints? If you haven't tried take a calcium supplement for awhile and see if it might help. My pain feels like you smacked your funny bone, but on and around the knee cap. Hope I helped some

Re: Knee/Leg Pain

I have leg & knee pain, but it is a burning, cause of a herniated disc in my back. The pain goes to the knee, my knee can swell up & get red & hot. If yours is doing similar, have they looked into the pain coming from your back? My back didn't hurt at all, it was all in my leg & knee.
