Scared to death of Hysterectomy

I am having a total hysterectomy on Friday June 4 and I am so scared. I am scared of the unknown, the hormone replacement therapy, the surgery, weight gain etc. Can anyone tell me their experiences and how they are doing now. I am hoping that this will be a positive experience. I guess I have to be on estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Why so much?
Help!

Hope I am not too late responding. Just saw your post.

Relax.

If you go to surgery tensed and worried many complications may developed. OK. The mind is an active organ even when sedated.

I had my surgery last year. I am proud to say apart from my breast producing a little milk todate. My surgery was a success.

I healed well. I can go to work often. I am no longer in excruciating pain.

In fact, I am surprise at how healthy I feel.

One possible problem to look out for after surgery is a possible yeast infection after using the antibiotic to prevent infection of any kind ok.

My life is now more comfortable since surgery.

It took a lot of adjustment but I am glad I did the surgery even tho in my world I wanted more than one child.

I kept my ovaries and cervix and I do not use hormones I only take Primrose every day.

Be strong! Put God first!

Hello Renee,

I had my surgery about 2 years ago. I do take hormones, it does take sometime to figure out the right ones for you, but after you and your doctor do, then all is well. I am glad I had the surgery, I am only 36 and I was just as worried as you are.

I have a 9 inch cut on my tummy, but felt a lot like my last c-section. Recovery has its ups and downs but all surgery does. You will feel much better after a couple days. When they let you go home you will already be feeling better. It might take about 2 weeks to get back to normal, just depends on how much you do and rest.
What ever you do "DO NOT LIFT ANYTHING OVER 10 LB." For the first few weeks and then add weight SLOWLY. Lifting things and doing more then you should will SLOW your healing.......

It takes some time getting used to not having a period, but boy is it nice.... I don't have to worry about pads and bleeding and all the cramps.

You should take more vitamins, calcium is a big thing..... Also depends on how young you are to how much you need.... But you can figure that all out after you are feeling better.....

One last thing, Don't worry about sex.... I think it is better now and My husband said nothing has changed for him all still feels the same. Just you will have to use a lot of astroglide or KY silky. No complaints on that side.....

Good luck on Friday and I will say a prayer for you...... Please when your feeling better let us know how your doing... There are also some other good sights that you can get help and answers to your questions that pertain to Hyst's.

Your not alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many blessings and thoughts your way
Chele'
