Day 6- some advice on Xanax?

Hey ya'll!

Day six and JAMMING this morning! Set the alarm and got up and showered and dressed to take the little ones to Vacation Bible School and will hit the gym after I drop them off and will come home and hit chapter two/step two in my book! Yeah!

Here is my dilema though- my addictionologist (mind you, he is a benzo addict) said it was okay to take the Xanax as needed during these next three or four weeks. But, a couple of posters on the boards (and I appreciate your opinions) said that the Xanax may be making my withdrawals worse? Last night at 2:00am after no sleep, I had to take half of one and I ended up sleeping from 2:30 until 6:30 when my alarm when off (and when it went off, I was in a DEEP SLEEP!)

So, what do ya'll think? Take it while I am getting over opiod withdrawal and worry about that later, although NOT ADDICTED TO THAT! Only take it at bedtime during the withdrawals! Or, cut it out and get it all over with? But, remember, I have three little ones to take care of? What will I do from sheer exhaustion? NEED YOUR OPINIONS!

Thanks ya'll and I sincerely appreciate your support over the last few days!
Michelle

Re: Day 6- some advice on Xanax?

Michelle---in my opinion stop obssessing about the xanax!!! Just take a 1/2 a couple of times a day when you feel you are anxious or shakey. If you don't need it don't take it. I take xanax too....am prescribed 1 3X a day and only take one at night. But when in w/d that is a whole different story. I wake up very anxious when in w/d and need a 1/2 a one to stop the jittery going crazy feeling. I don't believe you have a problem with xanax, you are like me, it makes you too tired to function, that is NOT our DOC or what we consider to be "buzzed". So don't worry girl!!! Take them if you need them that is what they are for.

As for your appetite, i always lose weight when w/d. And believe me it shows.... how about getting yourself a 12 pack of Ensure. They have some great flavors and it will be giving you the nutrition you need for your strength and a few calories too, cuz what you said you ate it the other post is NOT going to give you enough energy or nutrution to fight this. try to eat some graham crackers, or some oatmeal, or maybe waffles. Hopefully your appetite will return soon, don't want to loose any weight, you are already on the thin side.

Well i hope you have a good Wednesday, and i will check back in a few.

luv ya,
LISA

M, why add another addictive drug to the mix? Have your doctor give you trazadone instead. It will knock you out and it isn't addictive. Worked for me.

Re: Day 6- some advice on Xanax?

In the process of my own suboxone detox, I had been stuck at 8 mg a day for months. Everytime I tried to go lower, the severe anziety and depression would quickly become overwelming. I started on paxil last week and the difference is dramatic. I was able to drop from 8mg to 2mg with no problem. I think I will be able to drop to 1mg in the next week or two. So, most of what was bothering me was garden variety clinical depression. I have suffered from depression before but never to the degree of what happened on the suboxone

Overall, here is my 2 cents. Do whatever you need to do to get off of the suboxone. Sometimes I will get up at 1:00am and take a puff of marijana (I hate marijana but it is a most effective non-addicting sleep aid). It is the long half life of suboxone that is causing you (and me) to have a prolonged withdrawal. If this were a hydro addiction, I would have been over it a long time ago. Also, clonidine at night will help you sleep.

For anyone considering using suboxone to get clean, this should be your mantra; Get on and get off quickly. No more than 10 days on the suboxone. Any longer, you might be trading one addiction for another. When I started on suboxone this was not yet known.

Peace Out

Re: Day 6- some advice on Xanax?

Michelle, it is so wonderful to hear things are going good so far today. I think you're doing the right thing by keeping yourself busy. I also meant to tell you that I started reading like crazy after stopping the hydro's. Even when I started the Sub I still had too much "time" so reading really helped a lot.

I too agree with X User and would not use anything addicting. We are addicts!! Even when I was having some issues with anxiety and I spoke with my addictionologist, he flat out told me he would NEVER give me anything addicting (other than the Sub). Now please understand by no means am I "knocking" your Dr because we all know each one is different, but it just seems right that he would not give you anything addicting. I know it's really hard to deal with anxiety especially when you have three little one's but, as long as I know mine are safe, I will literally walk out of the room even sometimes just sit on the front steps for about 10mins, and I just keep telling myself it's all in my head and it's going to be okay. For me, it does work.

I know you have not ever abused Xanax, but I bet you never thought you could or would abuse narcotics. Please be careful with it.

I hope you have a great day
