please help

I have had a pain in my upper abdominal region on the last rib and below, left side and back for almost six months. I have numerous tests, cbc, rib xrays, lung xrays, ct scan, and everything is "normal". It is a dull ache during the day and a severe pain at night, waking me up. I cannot sleep anymore from the pain. I don;t have really any other symptoms except edema that recently started. Any advice?

Re: please help

Could be a pulled muscle. At night sleep lying on the side of pain and use small pillow to prop tummy up avoiding a pull on the muscle. If this does not work, see another doctor.

Re: please help

Thanks for the idea, I already do that too. It may be a virus that settled in the muscles, but I am in so much pain every night, same spot. My regular doctor just keeps sending me for more tests, and I am concerned about repeated exposure to radiation. Just thought there might be someone out there that may have a similar experience. It all started the end of december last year when I had a bad cold, and chronic coughing.

Re: please help

you could be suffering nerve pain caused by a virus, see if the doctor will give you elevil, when I was having chronic daily non stop headaches they did a battery of tests and determined it was nerve pain, whatever the heck that is supposed to mean and 20 mg of elavil made the headache go away after about two weeks taking it and boy does it make you sleep real good.

but after taking it for about 5 years I weaned down to 10 mg and have not had a return to headaches to I take a while to get to sleep and a while to wake up.

RR i am thinking since you had a cold and then it started and you don't sleep well that can create a vicious cycle not enough sleep can weaken the immune system adn thus allow the virus to keep activated, I know that older people and real sick people get shingles which is really a virus that lives in the nerve endings and this condition hurts like the dickens from what others who have had it tell me.

their immune systems when weaken cannot keep the virus in check, try a good vitamin supplement and enchinecea and goldenseal for 10 days until you get to see the doctor and get the elavil.

Re: please help

That is exactly where I had ulcer pain. It was always worse at nite, it would start around 1 a.m. and wake me up, the pain was a stabbing pain at nite & was horrible. Have you been tested for ulcers? I had to have that "camera" thing done down my throat to find the cause. It turned out to be 2 ulcers. I had let it go for about 8 months, but the pain got so unbearable that I couldn't sleep & didn't want to eat anything as I was afraid it would trigger the pain. No matter what I ate, I got the pain. At first it was occasionally at nite, & then it got to be more often & finally it was every nite. I tried over the counter meds but nothing worked, I would sit in a rocking chair at nite & hold my stomach or roll on the floor the pain was so bad.
