Charlie Horses

I guess I've been experiencing "charlie horses" in my legs off and on about twice a week for the past several years. For the most part the symptoms are transient and self-limiting. They occur mostly in the early morning when I start to wake up.

Lately (the past week) I have been getting charlie horse type cramps in my lower abdomen, equally on the right and left flank. Again, they are very transient and self-limiting. But I am a little worried about the etiology.

A little background, I am a 56 year old guy with Parkinson's Disease, CAD and HBP during exertion that is very well controlled with medications that include Metoprolol and Moduretic. I take multivitamins, ASA, and Sinemet daily as well. Any ideas?

Jeff

Re: Charlie Horses

Woodworks I've read that charlie horses can be caused by dehydration and also low potassium levels.

Thanks, I am seeing my primary care physician tomorrow, I think I'll see if she will run some blood chemistry tests.
