Irresponsible prescribing of benzos

(This article is 4 years old - so surely we have moved on further - as is the post re the GP below. I understand now that all GPs in UK are alerted to the problems of benzos and so they are less and less prescribed - as I understand the situation.
I myself started taking ativan many years ago - and intermittently - then a close family bereavement and I was given them nightly. I took 8 months to taper off ((very very difficult taper))and will soon be 1 year clear of them. Apologies to those who have heard this before - but there are always new people appearing who do not know. And I know that in some countries benzos are handed out in bucketfuls, with no regard for the patient and the possible addicitve aspects).
