I felt much much better before I started taking them 16 months ago. I'm only 33, 5 '11 154 or so. I drink maybe once a week. I smoke 1/2 pack a day, which is my downfall. I'll go drug by drug...
Altace- Was the absolute worst. Made my B/P increase & increased my anxiety
Toprol- Gastointestinal problems, sleep nightmares, lack of hunger++++
Lotrel- ??? My stomach still hurts a little bit in the morning prior to having coffee. Shortness of breath.... I'm a singer so this doesn't help.
Atenolol- Depression, could have some of the side-effects of the lotrel, gastrointestinal problems in the morning.
It just seems that I am over-medicated. 100 MGS of Atenolol & 5/20 of Lotrel is a lot. They ran all of the tests that came out fine. I just still wake up & feel like junk. I never had that before taking b/p meds. I'm getting fed up.

That happened to me. In the beginning (3 yrs ago) , the drs at the free clinic kept giving me pills to bp and diabetes until i reached 24 pills and eneded up on cane. I was on at least 7 different bp meds alone.
The side effects were so bad i could not walk 10 steps without pain somewhere. So i went pill by pill and now i only take 3 bp pills. The toprol xl was the worst for me.
Be careful with the stomach issues. I ended up having an operation on my stomach due to bleeding. I had taken so much bp meds that it caused my stomach to bleed. According to some on this board toprol should be weaned. When i got off toprol my bp shot up to 225/107 and stayed there for serveral days. Good luck.
