Pain after gallbladder surgery?

Did anyone still have pain under their ribcage after having their gallbladder removed? I had mine taken out May 19 and I'm still having pain on the right side. How long did it take the muscle to heal? Could it still be healing or did they mess something up? Any input would be great!

Re: Pain after gallbladder surgery?

Hi. Well, I had my gall bladder removed well over a year ago, yet I still have rib pains on my left and right sides, but more on my right side. It never really went away, but of course some days are worse than others. Sometimes it hardly bothers me at all, but other days I am more aware of it. I was told the rib pain was excess gas and I believe that to be true since I have noticed a correlation of the rib pain and eating. Do you ever get shoulder blade pain on your right side. I get that as well even though that is typical of a person having gall bladder problems. Again, I was told that was gas. Removing your gall bladder should help prevent any gall bladder attacks, but it doesn't mean all your GI problems magically go away. I know I still have some GI problems even with my gall bladder removed, but as long as it is nothing serious I guess I can deal with it.

Thanks for your input! I have it on both sides too and I have more of it on my right. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't. It's just a dull ache. I do still get shoulder pain on my right side, just like when I had my gallbladder. The internet is so scary sometimes with the things you read and and find out it could be serious. So it kinds of scares me that maybe something more serious is wrong. I'm a worry wart anyone and always think somethings wrong with me when I have the slightest pain. I suffer from anxiety and having this pain wasn't helping that out. I go to the doctor at 10:45 today, so we'll see what he says. Thanks again! Hopefully it is just gas.

Re: Pain after gallbladder surgery?

Hi Christina. Please let me know what your doctor has to say about the rib pains. It sounds like you have exactly what I have yet the doctors don't seem concerned and think it is excess gas in the colon. The colon is really close to where the ribs are. Of course I worry about things like colon cancer, but just never heard anyone with colon cancer talk about pain in the ribs and usually there are other signs like blood in the stool, narrow stools or sometimes no symptoms at all.

Do you ever have reflux problems? Sometimes I feel a funny kind of feeling in my chest, maybe also related to gas or reflux or something like that. My cousin is a nurse so she feels people who have had problems with their gall bladder as just prone towards digestive problems and gas in general.

Please let me know how your doctor visit goes.

Re: Pain after gallbladder surgery?

Christina, I forgot to add that I also get anxiety attacks and take xanax for that. Anyway, like you I get scared when I read things on the internet and sometimes try to play my own doctor. Keep in mind that the boards are very general and every situation is different, so try not to get yourself crazy the way I have done so many times in the past.
