hida scan results

I have been having a lot of digestive problems for the last several years. Doctor ordered an ultrasound and a polyp was found, no stones. I had to request a hida scan with CCK. I called the office for the results and his nurse said he said everything fine and will discuss with me on my next visit. I asked that the report be faxed. The results were: there is no detectable effect of CCK on gallbladder contraction. This makes the gallbladder ejection fraction far below the normal range of 35% and is consistent with chorinic cholecystitis in the approprate clinical setting. The impression: hepatocellular functions is normal, comon bile duct is patent, the cystic duct is patent. This is not indicative of acute cholecystitie. However the gallbladder had no detectable contraction in response to CCK administration and is consistent with chronic cholecystitis or other types of dysfunction in the gallbladder in the appropriate clinical setting. Do you think I should try and discuss surgery? Thanks

Re: hida scan results

Sounds like it is saying the gallbladder has just stopped working, it no longer contracts. I am not sure why this would happen, but if you are having pain, you should consider discussing surgery. Strange that the doctor would consider this normal.

I agree with farscape. Good luck on your follow-up visit to talk to the doctor.
