How often should a hernia be checked?

I had my gall bladder out when I was 14 due to anorexia, and I have had digestive problems ever since. When I was 17 I had an edoscopy done and found a hietal hernia at the bottom of my esophogus. The docs put me on meds and sent me packin. After 2 years on meds I felt so sick all the time, so I went off meds and just changed my diet, and felt great for a while. Well, now it is back.

I wake up every morning with nausea and severe pain under my ribcage. I could scream it is so bad. I can't move from what I am doing, I just have to lay down in a ball and fight it out. I have never experienced this kind of pain in my life. I don't know whether I should have the hernia checked again or not? I am now 22 and I am wondering how often a person should have the hernia monitored??

Re: How often should a hernia be checked?

Whenever symptoms get worse, it's good idea to have it checked out. However, you're md may simply tell you to start taking the meds again.

Good luck.
