Supposedly, an "overlying" condition (hypothyroid) causes many underlying conditions, usually they are
-high cholesterol
-high triglycerides
-insulin resistance
-high blood pressure

I have (had?) high LDL cholesterol. That's part of the reason I diagnosed myself with hypo. Former quack insisted I go on Lipitor, but I refused, saying I'd do it the 'natural' way. After 6 months of brisk 2-mile-a-day walks and cutting way back on sugars, LDL actually went up 2 points, although trigs came way down (cutting sugar will do that). When it dawned on me I'd only lost 4 pounds in that time, I started looking for reasons why... and voila! I figured out I was hypo. After a round-about series of tests and different doctors, I was assured the LDL would come down with optimal thyroid replacement. My chol hasn't been retested since then... so we'll see.
Former quack also wanted me on BP meds, which I refused time and again. BP was only elevated at his office... partly because he and inept staff would always agitate me so much (by pushing meds in my face and not taking no for an answer, no doubt). Anyway, I no longer have that spikey BP since I'm taking Armour.
That "overlying" condition has to be fixed before the other ones can be.
