Unhappy 8 week old SO sick.. please help.

My 8 week old boy is quite sick... he has been vomitting for a week now... he can keep some food down, but usually about three times a day, he will literally throw up 2-3 ounces. He also has extremely loose stools... they are like yogurt consitency and watery and sometimes just watery. He has lost over 2 pounds. He was in the hospital for three days and they said his blood work was fine and his ultrasound was fine. Told us to take him home and basically, in a nut shell, deal with it. He is on Isomil soya now as well. He seems to be a happy baby overall, but I can't stand all this diarreah and throwing up. Anyone else ever had this with their infant and what did you do or what happened? Thanks for your help

Have they rule out an allergy to the formula? Have you tried pedialyte to keep him from getting dehydrated? I would call the doctor back, any infant that young, losing two pounds, and still not any better, needs to be referred to a specialist, demand one, especially it they dismiss it to "deal with it", or find another pediatrician.

Did they test his stool for Rotovirus? You can find out alot about this through an internet search. It usually last 3 to 7 days and makes little ones VERY sick. My twin girls had this at 11 months, and one needed to be hospitialized for dehydration. We were in the Peds. office every day from day three through day 8, thats how long my girls had it. To find out if its Rotovirus they need a stool sample. Its pretty contagious, and not uncommon in the first year of life.

It could be the formula, cause thats what we thought when the girls got ill, but the Ped. said it would have maifested a little quicker for my girls, and she recomended the mildest formula on the market, wich is what you already said you are using. Definitly check with the Doc again, rotovirus is REALLY bad, and it was a few weeks before my girls were all back to normal.

Good Luck

Re: 8 week old SO sick.. please help.

Thank you for the responses.... he was on enfamil A+ at first, then they changed it to the Isomil. Does not seem to have made a difference. We were also told to 2 ounces at a time with a burp after 1 ounce. He is very very hard to burp sometimes. It is just so hard on us all. Neither myself or my husband can sleep properly as we are always worried he will throw up when we are sleeping.

Has he had an ear infection? Does he have a fever that spikes and drops? MY daughter got very sick, like your son. I took her to the hospital MANY times and eventually they told me I was paranoid. Well the next day my daughter was in the emergency room and they did a spinal tap, she had spinal meningitis. Her ear infections had spread to her brain and into her spinal fluids. A baby can't tell you the normal symptoms. They said her ears looked fine, her throat looked fine, her chest sounded fine an therfore she was fine. but she wasn't fine. She was only 15 months old and my husband and I were told to prepare funeral arrangements. A friend asked if her church could pray for our daughter,I said yes because I needed a miracle. Two weeks later my daughter was released from the hospital with not one complication left over from this illness the doctors said she would not survive. I knew her recovery was a miracle of God and decided to pay a visit to this church and thank them for their prayers. When I got there, it was different than anything I had ever experienced. I could feel God's presence and it felt good. I realized that I owed thanks to God and when the alter call came I did just that, I thanked him, asked him to forgive me and gave my life wholely to him. It has been a struggle to live a Christian life but without God I was only ruining my life. I thank God everyday for not only my daughter, but for the new life he has given to me and my family.

PLEASE, don't just brush this under the table, mother's know best. Pray for your son, and continue to "bug" the doctors. This is your babies life we are talking about.
