Milk Thistle, Alpha Lipoic Acid, H2O

Hello there again,
Quick question for anyone who might have either and educated answer or an experience. I have a lot of Milk Thistle and Alpha Lipoic Acid on hand. I used to be big into supplements. Anyhow, both are used to clean toxins from the body, especially the liver. Does anyone know if this might be helpful in speeding up the withdrawals. Also, I know I'll be nauseus, but does drinking excess amounts of water help as well? How about a multivitamin? I'm trying to think of anything that might help my body kick all the crappy feelings as soon as possible......I need to be mostly done in 4 days. The cravings I will have to manage, but I want to be done with the physical stuff before Wednesday. PLEASE, someone help me out as soon as possible if you have any answers or ideas.
Also, I posted this question on another thread. Is there anything that can help with the leg pain and twitching. I can't get any prescriptions---but I thought someone might have a non prescription idea as well. I think lots of H2O might help that also, but was wondering if anyone had knowledge of something else that might be of benifit. Thanks for all of your help.....all of you!!!!!! We can all do this.

Hi Jester....i am not too familiar with supplements...but here is what i used...
Dramamine----nausea--makes you drowsy
Immodium-----runs
Tons of water and ENSURE shakes
multivitamin
Unfortunately TIME is the only thing that cures all of these symptoms.
I am 36 days pill-free or so now and i STILL have some minor w/d symptoms. The wonderful people in NA have informed me that it can be up to 6 months for all of those nasty symptoms finally disappear.
I wish you the best,
luv,
LISA

Hi Jester-
Hey Lisa..wanted to say hi-and keep up the great work!Your doing awesome!!!!
Jester..
As much h20 as possible-immodium-can you acquire any benzos-?
If not St.Johns wort/valerian/goldenseal/triphala(afterw/d)...
Do you have a primary care dr?
If so- id ask for clonidine-helps a bit w/w/d..
Mostly-as much fluids-some benadryl-for sleeping..its tough-c/t is a tough one.
You can do it-tho-after 72 hrs..things get alot better-
Keep us posted-if your losing it ..post-words of encouragement go a long way..

Different things work for different people...the people on these boards are angels in their selfless giving of their time and advice, so listen to 'em! I tried many of the suggestions, but the bad news is that NOTHING is going to make you feel good. The last time I went through this, I was wearing a 3mg clonidine patch and washing down huge doses of valium with mass quantities of cinammon shnapps (sp?)...and STILL could not sleep for more than 30 minutes 3 or 4 times a day. I wouldn't recommend the alcohol, though, as I have also tried that without the valium, and all I got was drunk but still miserable and unable to sleep. The only relief I found was the hot baths. It's very temporary relief and sometimes it seemed like an impossible amount to effort to even draw a bath and find a towel...but for as long as I could stand being in the bath, I would be much calmer. I think after the fourth day it stopped being such a downward spiral, and I am sure that many people would be able to return to work after that time. Try to stay positive! Good luck!

Re: Milk Thistle, Alpha Lipoic Acid, H2O

Well, I have tried the bath thing. I tool three long baths today and WOW........I actually felt good while I was in there except being exceptionally hot and sweaty, which is why I don't really like baths in the first place. I prefer showers, but not right now. It hurts! Actually, between the Clonidine and the Ativan I seem to be doing pretty well. I'm also taking Immodium, Temazepam for sleep ( it works fairly well ), Pepto Bismol to calm the stomach, Motrin or Naproxen for pain, and Dramamine for nausea. Damn, thats the whole medicine cabinet. There are two major obstacles for me right now, however. I have a bad back and the pain radiates into my legs, so the pain down my legs is horrible. The bath helps temporarily, and so did IcyHot for about 45 min, but I wish there were a longer lasting relief. Anyhow, I really don't feel BAD, just icky. No vomiting, just a little runs and very tired and lethargic ( both from w/d and medicine ) Thats a big problem for me. I have so much to do in the next few days and yet I feel like I can't even bother to walk from one room to the other unless its for a VERY meaningful purpose. Anyone got ideas to help with the blahs associated with W/D's. Someone said their doc put them on a stimulant to help get them going. I wonder if some caffeine would be bad. It might get me moving, but I don't need my stomach messed up any more. Anyhow, thanks for all the great posts. I believe in all of you and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me. Love to all of you.

Jester

PS--back to this quinine water question.....no one has answered it, What is it? How does it help leg pain or any pain for that matter?
