Angry How Long for Tazorac?

Hi All,

I have been on Tazorac for a total of 6 months now. For the first two months I used the cream .1% and then switched to the gel .1%. I also started taking Yasmin at about the same time. My skin really started to improve a little at the end of the 3rd month, and then again at the end of the fifth month. But now I'm breaking out all over again! My left cheek is somewhat decent, but my right cheek, chin/jawline, and forehead are terrible. They are those icky small red, pusfilled ones; on my chin those deep cystic painful variety. I heard your skin is supposed to improve tons after 6 months on Yasmin, but does anyone know when I should give up on Taz and try something else? I spent a year on Benzaclin, and a year on Differin. Neither did anything for me, but I stayed with them so long because I had so much hope. I used Benzamycin, and that took 9-10 months for my skin to clear, but then my doc wouldn't prescribe it anymore. I got a new doc and started all these new meds cuz I thought they'd work faster than the Benzamycin, but it's been 3 years now and only sporadic results! UGH! Is 6-8 weeks to see improvements realistic? Because I don't want to waste time and money on something that's not going to work, especially since I don't have insurance. I just get so frustrated after 12 years of acne! Thank you so much for your support!

Re: How Long for Tazorac?

how bad was ur acne when you first started tazorac? I just started using it and I have moderate acne. It says it takes about 2 months to see results, but I also hear that tazorac is only for solving mild to moderate cases of acne. Maybe you need something stronger? Differin is less strong than tazorac btw thats probalby why it didn't work. I haven't ever tried Yasmin.

Re: How Long for Tazorac?

I was on 2 rounds of accutane 10 years ago that helped but only short term. now you couldnt get me to touch that stuff w/ a10 foot pole - no way.

Went on Retin A for a while then Differin, all were OK - nothing great.

Tazorac is my last shot before internal meds. It helped the first month, a little downfall 2nd month (i think its related to the cycle more than the creme though) and now its slowly improving. Leave it on all night dont wash it offlike some people do. And drink a LOT of water. I would say after 2 more months if you're not happy, try something else

Re: How Long for Tazorac?

Tazorac did nothing for me. It just made my skin produce more oil and it really clogged my pores. It made my acne worse in the end. I'd try to get on accutane or stronger antibiotics. Good luck!
