I think I made a stupid decision...

I think I might have messed up big time. . . I'm on Tetracycline, an antibiotic, for my acne and I heard that antibiotics can make birth control pills (Ortho-Tri-Cyclen) ineffective. How true is that? I take my BC every day at the same time, but I've had sex without a condom several times since being put on the Tetra (my bf pulled out every time, if that makes a difference) - How at risk am I for being pregnant? I'm not due for my period for another 2 1/2 weeks, so I'm completely freaking out

Well, you should contact your local pharmacy, they will be able to answer your questions. Your risk may be minimal. But if you have to, there are morning after pill if you need it, but u have to request it from your doctor.

You don't even have to ask your doctor for the morning after pill. You can just ask the pharmacy and they can sell it to you. It might be more expensive there then say planned parenthood though, however, at planned parenthood you have to fill out a lot of paperwork and at the pharmacy you don't have to do quite as much.

Re: I think I made a stupid decision...

I was on an antibiotic a few weeks ago (Cefzil) and asked my pharmacist about this. One of the ones he said DOES lower the effectiveness of BC pills is tetracycline. Before I was on BC pills my boyfriend and I used the pull-out method and I got pregnant in April, so please don't keep relying on that. I'd use a condom from now on and hopefully you will get your period. I guess in a situation like that you have to pick one or the other - antibiotic or BC pills.

It does lower the effectiveness but you should be fine.
