Question???

I looked up how many calories I should eat a day for weight loss, here's what it said:
No less then 2718.7 calories per day recommended for safe consistent Weight Loss. This is:
no more then 90.625 grams of fat (30%) for your Weight Loss Caloric Rate
101.95 grams of protein (15%) for your Weight Loss Caloric Rate
373.82 grams of carbohydrate (55%) for your Weight Loss Caloric Rate
At this safe consistent Weight Loss Caloric Rate,
you will lose 1 pound every 7 Days.

There is no way I eat as much as 2,718.7 calories a day. I eat way less than that, around 900-1,500. shouldn't I be losing weight then.
Any advice is appreciated, I am really trying hard to figure out what will work for me in order to lose weight, and so far, it hasn't been so good.
TIA

Re: Question???

Anonymous,

Unless you're either very young, very active, or very big (or ALL THREE), you will NOT lose weight at 2718.7 calories (gee, only ONE decimal point?)

A steady CALCULATED and RECORDED 900-1500 calories will very likely give pretty fast weight loss, but an "about 900-1500" never will, if you catch my drift!

That fact that after two months you are not, and have infact put on a few lbs, is an indication that it is not working for you. There are a few possibilities from just this information alone.

1) You are eating too little for your body. You are pretty active, this I know from other posts. 900 calories, regardless of your age, size or activity level, is too low. Period. 1,500 calories is too low for me, and I am not exceptionally tall or young. I do cardio 5x a week at 5:30 am for 45 minutes and I lift weights 3x a week for just under an hour and I need to eat 1900 calories to lose. For the record I am 5'6" and 38 years old. There have been times in the past few years (heavy lifting) when eating 2300 calories a day lead to fat loss.

The notion that you need to drastically cut your calories to lose fat is one that is counterproductive to sustained fat loss. The goal of any fat loss program should be permanent fat loss. The very nature of this requires time and behaviour modification. Less of a calorie deficit equals less of a metabolism hit; increased cardio equals increased deficit w/o a metabolism hit and as a double whammy it also increases metabolism in and of itself. Eating only slightly less than you burn and increasing activity is a win / win situation.

2) You are not measuring / calculating what you are eating accurately.

So, how tall are you? Are you male/female? What do you weigh?

Nat
