Exclamation Coated Tongue (not thrush)

Hi. This is my first post here, and i've been pleased reading through all the information available here. I have a question and i didnt see a board that really fits what my problem is.

I have a coated tongue. It brushes off fairly easily and is very thick at the back and tapers off toward the front. I often get a bad taste in my mouth. I also have swollen glands on one side of my neck just below where the jaw pivots. My doctor has been of absolutely no help. I've been on medication for thrush, and it didnt help. I've been on augmentin, just in case this was bacterial, and i've been on prednisone just in case it was allergy related. I'm tired of my doc experimenting with drugs to rule out possibilities.

If anyone has any information or suggestions, I will be GREATLY appreciative. Thanks in advance!

Re: Coated Tongue (not thrush)

Hi, I can relate somewhat....

Do you get enough water? Are you taking antihistamines?

What toothpaste do you use? Some are darned hard to get off the tongue.

After you brush, use a tongue scraper to get the rest off.

Do you drink coffee? I do, I also have great oral hygiene....but my tongue seems to be a bit "whitish". It's better now since using a tongue scraper. I'm using a whitening toothpaste, also a sensitive toothpaste, both from Aquafresh. Even with brushing and good rinsing, there's still some toothpaste residue/saliva that comes off when I scrape my tongue. Go figure.

Re: Coated Tongue (not thrush)

Thanks for the reply, quincy.
I do get enough water, and i do use a tongue scraper twice a day. I dont take antihistamines. When I dont use the tongue scraper, my tongue gets just covered with the white stuff. It's very annoying, and i have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. I think he is more concerned with the swollen glands than the crud in my mouth. They've been swollen for a month.

Re: Coated Tongue (not thrush)

For sure it's annoying!!

are your tonsils swollen as well? Obviously something's going on since you also have swollen glands. I hope the doctor's able to get to the solved for you.

Have you had a CAT scan or an x-ray or lots of blood tests to say if your white blood cells are elevated?
