Wink Re: Meds- Help!!!!

Are the BP II symptoms ONLY from the SSRI that you are on? If so, you should probably try to get off that SSRI and find something else that works instead of using that med to treat one problem and then another med to treat the problems that that causes. It can build up really fast. I know it may seem like it is "essential", but maybe you should still consider other options and try them out.
Does anybody know if a tricyclic antidepressant would treat the OCD the same way an SSRI would? Because if so, that's what I would suggest. I just looked up a tricyclic in a PDR (an old one though- 2000 edition) and it didn't say anything about OCD. However, it may be that it's an off-label use. I have OCD and am not on an SSRI, and until about two weeks ago has been under control. I am on Dexedrine, Clomipramine, Strattera, Trazedone, and Lamictal. I think that's all. Maybe there's one more, lol. Lately the OCD has kind of flared up in me though. But maybe someone else can answer the tricyclic question?

music23:

Anafranil / clomipramine has long been used for ocd. It is highly serotogenic, more so than any other tricyclic. I am suprised you don't have serotonin syndrome w/ all the serotogenic agents you're on...the ocd symptoms flaring up has something to do w/ that - excessive levels of serotonin cause anxiety (even though low levels cause it, that anxiety is more of a discontented feeling as opposed to anxiety).

Luvox / fluvoxamine has been approved for ocd, but was never officially approved to treat depression. Prozac also has been approved, but it's not the first line treatment.

I had the same problem! I now take 80 mg of Prozac and 200 mg of Lamictal! Amazing outcome for me!

Re: Meds- Help!!!!

I am using Lexapro and Lamictal. This seems to be a good "cocktail" for me.
