Palpitation Question

Hello all I'm hoping someone can answer this for me. When you have heart papitations where are they felt? I get them ocassionally (or at least I thought that is what they were!) in the center of my chest basically between my two breasts, and it's usually a couple of big thumps. However, my mother has just had a pacemaker put in and informed me she felt them under her left breast. Why the difference?
Thank you all for your help

Re: Palpitation Question

hi,

it may not be heart palpitations at all. i get esophogeal spasms, which i've had for the past two weeks. right in the middle and can feel them in the back area as well.

feels like my heart, but its not. i also have a hiatel hernia and have heard that acid reflux can cause this.

Re: Palpitation Question

I get the palpitation feelings mostly in my chest area and sometimes throat. The heart is situated more to the left side of ones chest, so probably that's why your mom has the feelings there. It might depend on peoples' chest sizes so thus the difference.

Oh yes, I'm sure that the heart is situated a little to the left side anatomically. If you look at medical pictures of the human heart, it's at the left side of the chest. Unless you have a rare condition where the heart is situated on the right side. It is rare and may cause serious problems or little. Have you ever had an echo or chest X-ray? Or maybe it's a distorted ribcage causing the difference in feeling...
