OK, stupid question I guess...

I have the symptoms of GERD, and have for years. I still to this day will um...I dont know how to describe it really...bits of green stomach adic stuff, will come back up into my mouth. Sometimes the pieces can be fairly big, tho that only would happen when I was singing a lot everyday ( choir ). They pieces smelled unbelivably bad. I occasionally get heartburn, but its not REALLY bad or anything. When I am more stressed, I tend to get the heartburn first. This is GERD, correct?

It sounds like it could be. Go see a doctor. They can help you with it. I also have GERD very bad. I'm now on Nexium and the stuff that comes back up, doesn't happen very often anymore. Good luck to you.

Acid backing up to the mouth is GERD. Have you had an EGD done?

I suffer from GERD too and I take a proton pump inhibitor (Prevacid).

Re: OK, stupid question I guess...

You also may have a hiatal hernia, where a portion of the stomach attached to the esophagus moves up beyond the diaphragm, the muscle wall that separates the stomach from the chest. There is a sphincter there that usually prevents stomach content from moving back up the esophagus, but apparently that isn't working for you.

Make sure you describe all of this to your doctor. There is a relatively simple surgery that can fix that, if it is serious enough to warrant surgery. Most times it is not, but if you are repeatedly getting stomach contents up in your throat, you should look into it. Stomach acid can burn the lining of the esophagus, which can, over a long term, have significant ramifications. The esophagus does not have the same protective lining that the stomach has, and is not made for repeated acidic contact.

Here's a good site to look at.

Good luck.

Sounds like GERD to me, although it could possibly be a little more. As PPPM described, it very well may be a hernia...hopefully you'll check everything out with your doctor. Good luck!
