went to the dr today and my bp was 148/100. he put me on norvasc 5 mg to start out. anyone else take this and what were your results? can i have a few beers at night if i take this med in the morning, i have a weeding to attend tomorrow night and he sd to start this medication tomorrow morning.

I really hated Norvasc (amlodipine.) It made me feel like I was on SPEED.
On top of that it doesn't lower BP very much. One month was more than I could bear.
It has one BIG advantage though...it's the most $$$expensive$$$ thing your doctor can prescribe.
I doubt that it will interfere with modest drinking for a weekend.

Yeah Zip, I hated it too. I was on it for a week and hardly slept at all plus I just couldn't sit still. I went back to the doc crying and begging for another drug.

i got a bp machine yesterday, i took it 5 times yesterday and this morning and all 5 times were very good but when i was at the drs it was 148/100. now i dont know if i should start this medicine, maybe it just gets high when i go to the drs, i called him and he said to start anyways, any opinions??

I too also dislike Norvasc. I couldn't sit still or sleep. It raised my heart rate to about 140 BPM sending me to the ER. It is by far the worst BP med I was on.
