trying to loose weight

hey everyone. well il start off by saying i appreciate any help it means alot to me. OK lets see. last winter i weighed about 155 im 5'7 so thats an ok weight. I ate very lightlty and i started running a little and doing pushups and such. i also ate no junk foods at all. well ive fallen off the wagon and last time i checked i was up to 170 ish . that was probaly a month ago. i dont know how much i weigh anymore cause i dont have a scale. i started slowly eating junk food and that just made me eat more in general. bigger portions. now for the last couple weeks ive been trying to cut down on my portions and trying to cut out snacking. ive probaly lost a couple pounds but i cant tell. i just wanted to ask you what exercises i could do without running that would be most productive. im a male and i have unusaul amount of fat in my legs and butt. where as my stomach is skinnyer not skinny but skinnyer. i really want to loose some of the excess fat around my butt and at least gain some muscle in my legs. im pretty inactive i have no job and i generaly sit on my arse all day. can anyone recomend some diets or excerise programs. im gunna try to run everyday. but in case i cant get my self to i want to have a back up. ive got two weeks to get my self in shape then im going to see my girl and i dont wanna look bad. im gunna go to the supermarket today. what are some healthy meals i can get?

thanks

Re: loose ten pounds in 2 weeks?

As far as eating goes, cut out the junk food (which I'm sure you know). Replace it with lots of veggies -- 5 servings a day -- and lean meat. We eat a lot of chicken, fish, salad, and veggies. It it recommended to eat 5 small meals a day. This increases your metabolism by making it more more often. It's okay to snack, just do so in a smart way.

If you really dislike running like I do, try walking at a fast pace. Since you are at home all day, just think of all the time you have to burn calories! If you find it tough to get out of the house and workout, try doing simple exercises while watching TV (i.e. crunches, squats, lunges, curls, etc.)

You might try activities you enjoy, also, to burn calories: biking, walking a pet, swimming, etc.

Good luck!

First of all, if your girl cares about you she won't care about an extra 20 lbs. You should be tackling this for yourself and the health benefits, not just so you look good on your visit!

It IS possible to lose 10lbs in 2 weeks, especially because you are male. But its important to know that you will be losing mostly water weight and muscle tissue in the first few weeks. This is why its so important to stick to your healthy eating habits and excercise regularly AFTER you lose that first 10 lbs.

Assuming you are between 20-25 years old, and given your height and weight, you should be eating between 1600-1800 calories to lose weight during this period. Do not eat less calories than that! Measure and weigh your food so you can be precise with portions.
What to eliminate: All junk food, including flour products, bread, pasta, all sugars and sweets, all processed/packaged foods.

What to eat: Eat fresh meats, poulty, fish, seafood, eggs, cottage cheese, and block cheese (not the processed slices!) for protein. Load up on fresh or frozen veggies, salads (use oil/vinegar for dressing), fresh fruit, and for starches eat brown rice, baked potatoes, beans (not the sweetened canned type!), and whole grain cereals (like shredded wheat or oatmeal). Make sure you eat adequate amounts of protein with every meal and snack throughout the day.
The next key is excercise. You must include 30-60 minutes of moderate excercise every day. This is imperative in burning off your calories in this short period of time. Try to combine some strength training with aerobic excercise for maximum benefit.

Finally, keep yourself hydrated. Drink nothing but pure water if you can. Avoid diet soda, crystal lite, coffee, etc. Try to get in at least 80 ounces of water every day. This will have an amazing impact on your ability to kickstart your metabolism.

Keep in mind, I am not giving you a fad diet here, but the more stringent you are in following these suggestions, the greater success you will have. You only have 2 weeks so there is no room for "cheating." If you eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks spaced evenly throughout the day (every 3 hours) you will not feel hungry.

Re: loose ten pounds in 2 weeks?

You have to realize that dieting and weight loss is an erosive process. You strive to lose fat, but also lose muscle in the process. Because you have a short-term goal it is unrealistic and unlikely that you would be able to lose 10 lbs of fat. In a long-term plan you can have better control over this, but weight loss is a much slower process when try to preserve or even build muscle mass.
