weird feeling with lexapro

hi all....just wondering if anyone has had a weird side effect from lexapro...i have been on it for almost 5 weeks and within the past week and a half, i have noticed that i will have "flashes" of weird/scary moments...almost like a flash of anxiety..i guess somewhat comparable to a panic attack but different...its hard to explain but almost like an "out of body" experience or im dreaming...its happened a few times...twice when i was in classes and once tonight in the store...i get really freaked out for a few minutes..i know this probably sounds weird but i just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience...im a little bothered by it...im seeing my doctor next week so i will definitely talk to her about it...any help guys? thanks.

HI moe2121
My name is Tom, I'm a newb. I was diagnosised with Anxiety about 1 1/2 years ago and went to a treatment clinic. when I first started Lexapro, I had weird scary moments and felt like I was in a daze. It took a few weeks but it went away after awhile. The main problem that I had at first was that I was so lost in Anxiety and being scared that I was going to die, that I couldn't tell if it was Anxiety or the meds.now that I look back I think it was the meds.I been on every ssri and Anxiety medication I can think of, and thay all gave me some kind of side effect at first. needless to say I think after a few month's I got used to Lexapro and think it works the best for me.
some times I even felt like I was going "schizo".
well I hope I could be of some comfort to you and wish you the best of luck.

PS. I think every Question concerning Anxiety can sound a little weired some times...lol

Re: weird feeling with lexapro

I recently went off lexapro because of feelings like you said. I had been on Paxil for a while and it was working well, but I went off it because I was grinding my teeth. So my doctor put me on lexapro three weeks ago. My anxiety on the lexapro was ten times worse than when I wasn't on anything. Everyone has their own reaction to meds, and if this one does not work for you for a while, keep trying until you find one that works. My doctor has switched me back to Paxil and just upped the dosage, and I feel 100% better!

Good luck to you!

Re: weird feeling with lexapro

I use it for Anxiety. I notice that sometimes I get what feels like the beginnings of anxiety, but "modified" and nowhere as intense without Lex, but it tends to pass after a short period of time.

I also have moments of spaciness, where I find myself just staring off into space. This alarms me when I am driving, as I'm usually trying to be aware of my surroundings when I'm driving, and I have to force myself to shake it off.
