can you split zorcor tablets

my husband's last cholesterol reading was total 136, hdl 28 and ldl 66 - he has been on zorcor 40 mg for past 6 weeks - the doctor didn't think this was too low - I'm not so sure after some of the articles I've been reading - any thought on this - by the way does anyone know if zorcor 40 mg can be split in two. Thanks for reading and any replys

Re: can you split zorcor tablets

I've been splitting 40 mg tablets for a while. They are an odd shape so you pretty much need a pill splitter. It does a good job of it.

Jean, Could you please provide your husbands levels before starting Zocor?
LDL
HDL
Triglycerides
Total Cholesterol

Does you husband have any conditions that warrant drastic cholesterol lowering?
The normal level for LDL is 100 or lower.
High risk level for LDL is 70 or lower [a new standard].

Your husbands HDL is very low, but not surprising with LDL of only 66.
When LDL is extremely low, side effects can include depression.

And yes, the smallest of pills can be split in two.

Re: can you split zorcor tablets

about six to eight weeks ago, my husband was diagnosed with type II diabetes. His blood sugar was over 500 and his tc was 365 - the ldl was not given because of high tc and high trigs - he was started on zorcor 40 and tricor - everything is much better now and his blood sugar is controlled and he is exercising and losing weight - he is feeling good now and the doctor thinks the total cholesteral cannot be too low, however with a tc of 136 after only 6 weeks on medicines, if he keeps on losing weight and exercising, I was surprised the dosage of zorcor wasn't cut down. His thallium stress test was normal and all the other tests they did were normal - I know they recently changed the cholesteral chart (who knows what they will say in a few years - they also did tests to see if he had any nerve damage from the diabetes and he does not - I don't think he is depressed, but I will be sure to notice in light of what you said about the low ldl - thanks for your reply. By the way does anyone know if zorcor can cause ED - my husband has had a recent problem just since taking the zorcor and thought it may be related

Yes, ED is a side effect of Zocor and most cholesterol & blood pressure lowering drugs.

From RxList.... Side Effects for Zocor
