Re: Costochondritis???

I have it have had it for the last 2 years!at first I thought it was a heart attack but after going to the dr,hospital etc so many times they said it wasnt my heart it was costo.I still have it and suffer from this chest pain almost every day!offcourse I work under a lot of stress so my upper back muscles are tight.so I just dont worry about it anymore, its been 2 years and too many ekgs an echo and 3 diffrent dr s telling me is not my heart.I hope they are right! but if you have any questions let me know,my pain is mostly right in the sternum area right in the center.

Re: Costochondritis???

Hi,

I've had chondritis off and on for quite a long time.

I finally made it in to see a pain doctor who diagnosed me as having 'severe, chronic chondritis'. He set me up to get a 'TENS' device, and it has really made a difference in my quality of life. It's just this little machine, about the size of a deck of cards that slips into your pocket, with electrodes attached that I put on over the area of pain. The idea is the electrical impulses from the TENS disrupt the nerve impulses to the brain that are signaling pain.

Like you, Maria, I've had multiple tests to rule out anything 'serious'.

But living every day in pain is serious! Talk about increasing anxiety!

Re: Costochondritis???

I haven't been diagnosed, but I have suspected that I might have costo for the past couple of months. I started having panic attacks just out of the blue in April. After a month or so of having the panic attack I started having constant chest pain. Of course this did not help the panic situation My doc did an ekg, echo, and I wore a 24 hr. holter monitor. All said that my heart was fine. He put me on zoloft which helped the panic tremendously but I still had the chest pain. After researching on the web I found out about costochondritis. I think that might be what is going on with me. I am 22 and have never had any health issues. So surely it is not my heart (hopefully ) My chest pain is more on the left side towards the center, but not exactly. It is a very sharp pain & sometimes just tightness. Does this sound like it could be costo?

Re: Costochondritis???

Do any of you get a pain in your lower right rib area? I used to think it was a liver problem until the docs said I had costo due to stress. Check out this long thread over at Liver Disorders!
