How safe is Promethazine

I have been pretty sick with m/s and I spoke with the dr. He put me on Promethazine. I am trying to figure out what class it is in and can find nothing online and I am not too sure where to look. I just want to know how safe it is. I have Chorns and am on a restricted diet of no wheat, no dairy, etc. So those things most people use to fight m/s like saltines and stuff I can not have. Since there was nothing I could do to fight the m/s he put me on this. Not to mention I was sick with m/s all day and all night. I have been taking it and it has helped but I am more tired then normal from it. Due to it making me so tired I am worried it will have a negative effect on the baby.

Re: How safe is Promethazine

this is a class C drug....meaning it DOES cross the placenta...

No adequate human data but suggested possible association with cardiovascular defects in 1st trimester exposure.
reported to cause neonatal respiratory depression and neonatal platelet dysfunction when used in labor.

You should only take this if the potential benifit to you outweighs the risk to your baby!

i was given this too for nausea and i assumed since the dr. gave them to me and knew i was preg. that they were safe...wrong.

in my opinion...not worth the risk!
i just couldnt have lived with myself if something was wrong with my baby because i was nauseous and had to take a stupid pill...although i did take 2-3 before i read that when i researched it. then i got rid of them...

Re: How safe is Promethazine

I took it for a while cause I was so sick I couldn't keep water down. I cut the dose in half of what they prescribed and only took when I really needed it (Say vomited twice within x amount of time because I'd know at that point if I didn't I'd just wind back up in the er)...

now in dakota's case..puking that much is not safe either...dehydration becomes an issue...there for a while i was puking about once a day, but it wasnt enought to warrant a trip to the er so i just got through it..sipped vinegar and that has been my wonder drug...vinegar! not everyones cup of tea though.

Yeah that's what I figured. I had the good faith issue too so didn't even look up the drug or anything. Then recently saw people making comments about it. the only way I could make myself feel better about it was saying 'well...not being able to keep foods/liquids down is surely worse' And if it's not don't tell me. LOL I don't wanna know...LOL..
