Medications

Has anyone ever used narcotic painkillers for their headaches? My doctor prescribed Percocet and Vicodan (at separate times of course). I found that they helped a little, but the pain came back even more so when the meds wore off. Has anyone experienced this? Have you used a med that WAS effective? Thanks!

Re: Medications

When I would run out of my regular migraine meds, Axert & Amerge, I tried using Percocet. I agree with you. Initially the pain ceased but once that medication wears off the pain is much worse. I have found that Axert 12.5 mg. and Amerge work great! Quick relief with no side effects!

Kascha-Darvocet has been most effective for me when my abortives don't work. It helps to relax me enough that I can generally get to sleep, which usually is what I need to get rid of mine. Hope this helps-good luck! Angel Mist

Re: Medications

I only take percocet when i feel like i'm going to die. I generally take them at night and it knocks me out.

Re: Medications

My doctor says that regular pain killers usually don't do any good for migraines because of the fact that the pain comes back with a vengence when the drug wears off. The only narcotic I've tried for migraines is Codeine but the effect isn't strong enough or long enough. I have found Advil Liquigels to be helpful, though.
