Antibiotics and itching like crazy

I've been taking antibiotics for about 10 days, and I just started feeling side effects a couple of days ago (I think I'm having a delayed reaction). But anyway, last night I started itching like crazy all over. Today it's even more intense - my chest seems especially susceptible to the itch. I have not developed a rash or anything...but the itching is everywhere from my scalp to my back to my groin to my legs. Even gently touching certain areas causes itching.

I don't know if the antibiotics have anything to do with this...I don't have chicken pox, measles, rubella etc. either.

Could be an allergic reaction. I would call your doctor and ask for something else. Stop taking that particular medicine. Also, have you been in the sun or using sun lamps...this may also cause an itchy reaction.

Hi, I had the same reaction to Keflex,an anti-biotic. Started a few days after I stopped taking the med. Ended up in the ER, they gave a shot of something which stopped the itching but I was really nervous from that shot for about 5 days. I was told not to take any penicillen drugs or sporins. I took penicilen all my life without a problem.

I itched the same way, my entire body. You do not have enough hands to scratch. I went to the ER. because my throat felt like it was closing, I do get hives, but had none or a rash.

It sounds like an allergic reaction. I had one to amoxicillin. In the past I had taken this antibiotic quite often without any side effects until this one. I tried it one more time and had another reaction- itching. I can not take it any longer.

You need to stop the antibiotic and call your doctor and get another one.

I told my doctor about the itching and she simply put me on another drug to handle it because I had not developed a rash or hives from the antibiotics. But the itching has gone down considerably since Sunday night.
