Ttc

I just found out that I've been in remission from Cervical cancer since my last surgery, which was FIVE months ago. So my fiance and I have decided that it's time to have a baby, before it's too late.
My questions is, I'm still on the birthcontrol patch (Ortho Evra).
I got the results the Monday after I started the first patch of my newly refilled pack. So I figured the best thing to do would be to finish out this month, not to mess up my cycle too much.
So what do you all think my chances are of being pregnate by Christmas???

And another thing...
do those over the counter ovulation kits work?? Are they accurate as to when you are actually ovulating?

I also have social anxiety disorder and am on medication for that. I'm taking 75mg's of effexor daily. Does anyone know if this type of drug is safe during prenancy?

Re: Ttc

You will need to check with your dr about the anxiety medicine. By finishing out your birth control patch you may have a chance to get pregnanct by Christmas depending on y our cyclce length. Keep in mind, it can take an average, healthy women months before she gets pregnant and that is normal. So giving it just one try before Christmas you have a chance to get pregnant, but it wouldn't be surprising if you weren't pregnant by then. Also, sometimes it takes a couple of months for your body to get back to its normal cycle after being on birth control so this can affect your chances of getting pregnant right after the patch. Additionally, as I have mentioned before, some sources suggest waiting a few months before ttc after going of the birth control pill/patch due to possible complications it could have and to allow your body time to get back to normal. The complications are probably rare, but I would have to look them up in my books to remember what they are.

The ovulation predictor tests worked for me. I knew I was getting close to ovulation and then it came up positive. They seem to work for most (not all but most) women. They tell you that you are about to ovulate within the next day or so. But to increase your chances you would actually what to start BDing about 4 days before you are going to ovulate because sperm can live that long. OPKs will not tell you that you are going to ovulate in 4 days, rather that you will ovulate sometime within the next couple of days. Do some research on them. For example, you shouldn't use them first thing when waking up ebcause often you have the LH surge in the morning which is not enough time for it to register in your urine. I took my tests around noon and then arond 10pm. Then I would be sure not to miss it. Mine came up positive around noon one day.

Good luck to you! I have been off birth control since May and just started to ttc for the first time this month. I will know in a couple of weeks whether or not we have been blessed with a child in time for Christmas...that is what we are hoping for as well. What a great Christmas present to both sets of our parents, for this will be their first grandchild.
